BREAKING: Dundee United announce Robbie Neilson as new head coach

Dundee United have announced the appointment of ex-Hearts and MK Dons boss Robbie Neilson.

The new Tannadice head coach, who replaces Csaba László, has agreed a contract to the end of next season and will be in the dugout on Saturday against Partick Thistle at Firhill.

Neilson made 23 appearances for Dundee United as a player before moving into management. He went on to lead Hearts to the Scottish Championship title and the Europa League before moving to MK Dons in England.

In a statement on the Dundee United website Neilson said, “It is an exciting opportunity at a great club and I am confident that I can lead Dundee United back to the Premiership.

“This is the perfect challenge for me at a club I know well and I am looking forward to meeting the coaching staff and players tomorrow and getting straight to work ahead of Saturday’s match at Partick Thistle.”

Chairman Mike Martin is also quoted as saying, “I am delighted that Robbie has agreed to become Head Coach at Dundee United.

“From a long list of impressive applications, he was the outstanding candidate.

“We were convinced by his track record and experience, his style and approach to coaching and management and his plans and vision for this club.”

The club will unveil Neilson at a press conference tomorrow. Follow Discovery Sports Media on Twitter and Facebook for the latest.
